Senior Software Engineer (onsite/hybrid/remote)

RemoteAmsterdam, Noord-Holland, NetherlandsTech

Job description

Will you help us turn the world of waste upside down?

At Seenons we are on a mission to bring people together for a waste-free world. Most important is that we’re in it together. No team, no nothing. As there is no time to waste, we are looking for a Software Engineer (in Amsterdam/remote) to join our mission!

Before you apply: We would love to diversify our team and relocate new colleagues from abroad. However, at this time we are limited and won’t be able to provide you with relocation support. If you were planning on moving here anyways, definitely get in touch!

Make an impact

Waste is a growing worldwide challenge. Each year, in the Netherlands alone, we send 2.75 megatons of waste to the incinerator or to landfill. That is the equivalent of 76 million wheelie bins of valuable materials! This needs to change and that’s why Seenons was started in 2019 with the clear mission to save as much materials from waste as possible and speed up the transition towards a circular economy.
We have developed a platform and app which match fine mesh waste streams with waste processors who give it a second-life. We do this together with 70+ employees in the Houthavens in Amsterdam. As a team we value freedom and ownership, making us go to work full of energy every day. We dare to steer our own course and do things just that little bit differently.

What you will be working on

We're expanding, and as Seenons grows, so do the important finance-related responsibilities. You'll be part of a multidisciplinary team collaborating with internal stakeholders, including the CFO and the financial controllers. You will also work closely with the product manager to understand the project's objectives and with the technical lead to ensure alignment with the overall technical architecture and design principles. An impression of what you will be working on:

  • Continue the design, development and maintenance of the pricing engine, which may involve complex algorithms and data processing
  • Optimize the pricing engine for performance and scalability to handle growing data volumes and user loads
  • Continue the development of the invoice generation system to automate the creation of invoices for clients
  • Implement logic to handle different billing scenarios, taxes, discounts and fees
  • Build and maintain an auditing system that tracks changes and activities within the financial and pricing systems
  • Implement security measures to protect sensitive financial data and ensure compliance with auditing standards

You will love working with us if

  • You are excited about building web applications using the latest tools available

  • You already love using TypeScript or are eager to learn it. You can also have a look at our full tech stack on Stackshare

  • You’re looking forward to design, develop and test backend APIs built for our clients to help them get to zero waste

  • Have worked with components that must not fail and that are recoverable and retryable

  • You want to work in an agile and international team that isn’t scared of taking on any battle

  • You value openness and are happy to receive and give regular feedback to your peers

  • You want to contribute to a world with less waste and more circularity

Job requirements

We’ll love working with you if

  • You have multiple years of relevant industry experience building web applications

  • You have professional experience in designing and implementing platforms, and their cloud architectures

  • You have substantial experience with engineering principles

  • You have a strong comprehension of relational and non-relational data storage solutions

  • You always think about the bigger picture

  • You have strong communication skills (both written and verbal) in English

  • You can work within a +1 hour time difference from the Netherlands, this is because we do a lot of pair programming.

  • Contributions to open-source projects

  • Experience with infrastructure as code

  • Experience with Finance, Invoicing, 3rd party ERP integrations

  • Deep knowledge over rich domain models, loosely coupling, distributed systems, event driven architecture and consistency models

  • Strong communication skills, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions that meet the needs of the stakeholders.

Ah, one last thing…

If you are not quite sure or feel that you don’t meet 100% of the requirements, but are excited about us, apply anyway! We want real people who are also willing to take risks. We learn and grow together.

Do good, meet good. With us you can:

  • Drive impact in the pursuit of a zero-waste future

  • Enjoy competitive salary, pension plan and VISA sponsorship (if already in the Netherlands)

  • Benefit from an equity SAR package for shared success

  • Take 25 days of paid holiday per year and 8% holiday allowance (on top of your salary)

  • Collaborate with 80+ talented, international colleagues and seize growth opportunities and make a difference in a thriving scaleup

  • Work from a well-located Amsterdam office with a panorama harbor view in Houthavens, close to Amsterdam CS and Sloterdijk
